NFA Update: the changes the government will make to our Firearms Act

The CFCV has had a win on the NFA front – of sorts.

You will recall we led an industry submission to the Federal Justice Minister, Michael Keenan, earlier this year pointing out changes made to the NFA which had not been previously announced and were clearly detrimental to the interests of the shooting sports.

Some of these changes included the imposition of ammo purchase limits, longer waiting periods for subsequent PTAs and potentially banning juniors from getting involved in the shooting sports.  Click here if you’d like to see our previous blog on this.

The NFA stuff-up: “It was the shooters’ fault”

Federal Justice Minister, Michael Keenan, has provided a three page response to the CFCV led industry paper pointing out anomalies and issues with the updated National Firearms Agreement.

We are grateful for the attention the minister gave to this, as he could just as easily ignored it, but has responded.

Our LRD survey – and your savage responses

In 2015, the CFCV ran a survey of over 800 shooters which revealed how strongly we feel about the the performance of the Licensing and Regulation Division of VicPol.

We knew you’d be pretty unhappy with them – especially with their meddling during the lever-action shotgun fight – but what we didn’t expect was just how deep those feelings run!

Victoria Police: The fight has started

Yep, we have just launched our action against the Victoria Police in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

We’re seeking an order that they reveal ‘recommendations’ they made to the Victorian State Government to have our gun laws changed, which they don’t want anyone to see. Read more »
