After some weeks of discussion, the Herald Sun has published a letter in it’s paper from us on its recent spray of anti-gun articles.

We found something the Herald Sun didn’t tell you when reporting on firearm issues

BlundenVictoria’s most widely circulated daily newspaper, the Herald Sun, recently ran an anti-gun tirade consisting of no less than seven articles and opinion pieces.

It was strange for a number of reasons:

  • It was ferocious;
  • None of the articles contained comment from anyone representing shooting interests;
  • It came after the government announced the Adler A-110 was safe;
  • It involved extending an invitation to the CFCV to have an opinion piece published – and then withdrew the invitation.

Herald Sun’s refusal to provide a Right of Reply

Herald Sun campaigning against AdlerLat this week, the Herald Sun ran not one, but two articles, one of which featured on the front page, plus an editorial campaigning against the Alder and pointing to increased firearm availability.

Apart from focusing on old stories, including the reclassification issue which the federal government has dispensed with, the articles have one glaring omission – any input or comment from shooting interests.

In other words, the shooting community had no right of reply. Read more »
